Tell me your fortune! We are going to be making origami fortune tellers and play an icebreaker game with them.

How do we make a fortune teller?
First off, you will be paired with another student for this activity. The materials you will each need are: one colored construction paper, markers and a scissor. Step 1: You will need to fold one side of the colored construction paper to create a triangular shape. Step 2: There will be a rectangular shape at the bottom of the triangle. Cut off this piece completely with your scissors. Step 3: Once you cut off the rectangular piece, open up the triangular shape and you should see a square with your paper.

VIDEO Step 4: Now we will all watch a video on how to make an origami fortune teller video as a class. I will pause the video to make sure everyone is on task. iv&src_vid=XrDKExgUUFQ&v=e-D4Gdht28Q

Steps Cont. After we finish making our fortune teller, we will add some writing on the outside and inside of our fortune tellers. Step 5: On the four square flaps on the outside of the fortune teller, write down four colors of your choice nice and big with your markers. Step 6: Inside of your fortune teller, label the outside of the flaps with the number 1-8. Step 7:Step 8: Lift the flaps with the numbers up and on the inside of the fortune teller, write down the following questions. What is your favorite subject? What did you do for the summer vacation? Where are you from originally? What is the most important thing you have in your room? What do you like to do for fun? How many brothers and sisters do you have? What is your ideal vacation place? What kind of movies and music do you enjoy? These questions do not need to go directly with any number. You can write them under whatever number randomly.

ICEBREAKER GAME Once you have written, all these questions down on the inside of your fortune teller, you and your partner will now play a game. Here are the steps of the game: Step 1- Step 1: Both of you in your pair must hold the fortune teller with your hands in front of you. Step 2- One person will go first in choosing a color off the other’s fortune teller. Step 3- The person holding the fortune teller will spell out the color as they move the fortune teller in and out with their fingers. Step 4- Once you have stopped spelling, show your partner the inside of your fortune teller which has the numbers. Step 5- Your partner will choose a number and you will lift up the flap of the number they have chosen. Step 6- You will read the question written under that number. (Show them an example of this with your partner) You will each take turns repeating steps 1-6 until you have finished all the questions in your fortune teller. You will have 20 minutes to play!

POSTERS Each pair will receive a medium sized blank sheet of butcher paper. Step 1: Using the markers, write down an interesting fact you learned about your partner on the butcher paper. Make sure you write nice and big! Step 2: You will now draw a picture to go along with the interesting fact you have written down. Make you draw your pictures nice and big! Step 3: Once you are finished your drawing, post your posters on the walls for everyone to see. Now, let’s all get up out of our desks and take a gallery walk around the room.

Reflection Questions! Everybody have a sit after you have viewed all the posters! What did you like about this activity? What are some interesting things you have learned about your classmates? How has this activity helped you in learning about each other?
