Background Big Picture: Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. Most Haitians live on less than $1.25 a day [1]. Zoom in: Reusable glass bottles were replaced by plastic, as a result bottles litter the streets and waters of Haiti due to poor waste management. Gap: Organizations like Ramase Lajan and Thread have implemented bottle waste collections in Haiti but rely on shipping the bottles out of the country. Goal: Reduce waste by using locally collected plastic bottles to create revenue or value for the Haitian community. Beach littered with plastic bottles. Cap-Haitian, Haiti [2]. Dana

Benchmarking/Research
Bottles as: Building materials for construction of water storage tanks, toilets, houses. [3] Recycled Ramase Lajan [4], Thread [5] Reused Eco Bricks [6], concrete filler [7] Chemically break down Pyrolysis/Depolymerization, Biofuels [8] Also: Reusable glass bottles have been replaced for convenient plastic bottles, increasing plastic waste. Water bottle constructed cistern [2]. Drew
