Bio Fuels By Camilla and Kelsey

Bio Fuels Bio fuels are energy sources made from living things or the waste that living things produce Some people argue that their use could increase greenhouse gas emissions Some people claim that this poses a major threat to global food systems and the natural environment

Bio Fuels We chose bio mass as our bio fuel

Bio Fuels We chose a sunflower as a type of bio mass

Bio Mass Biomass is defined as a renewable energy source, that is from biological material. Nowadays, biomass is mainly used to generate electricity or produce heat. Biomass can be categorized in four types: Woody biomass made of forest remains, such as dead trees, branches and tree stumps, yard clippings and wood chips Leftovers of agricultural processes such as palm kernel expellers, coffee husks, rice husks and olive cake Waste from households and industries, for example gardening waste, garbage, wood and remains from the timber industry Cultivated energy crops such as eucalyptus trees for dedicated biomass use.

Two advantages There is an abundant supply. We have lots of biomasses all around us. For example, sunflowers are very common and don’t do much. We could use dead trees, garbage and wood chips It can convert waste into energy. This will help us deal with the waste that we have nothing to do with. It would be helpful to get rid of the vegetable/fruit/gardening waste and the remains from the timber industry.

Three cons It can lead to deforestation. If we started to cut down trees and plants to use, there would be problems. Some of the bio masses are seasonal. For example, the sunflower would not last all year round in cold places. It would die out in the winter. Some of the bio masses require water to grow. It would not be a problem at first but it could in the end. We already have limited water for the billions of people in the world.
