2 Goal:  Practice classification  Evaluate evidence  Create hypotheses  Understand the relationships between the animals of two different regions  Compare and contrast the animals of two different regions  To gain a better understanding of Colorado and Turkey

3 Standards: Colorado Academic Standards Science 7 th Grade Earth Science: 1. Major geologic events such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, mid-ocean ridges, and mountain formation are associated with plate boundaries and attributed to plate motions 6 th Grade Earth Science: 1. Complex interrelationships exist between Earth’s structure and natural processes that over time are both constructive and destructive

4 Lesson Plan:  Create copies for each group of students  Cut the pictures out and mix up the order of the pictures  Have students hypothesize what they think the land of Turkey looks like and share out loud  Pass out the pictures to the groups of students and have them put them hypothesize them into groups based off of which pictures represent Turkey or Colorado with justification of why they put them into those groups  After the students finish grouping and justification, have them present to their class mates – either whole class or another group  As a class vote on the groupings and them can check answers  Students will create a food web for Turkey or Colorado using both the plants and animals activity.  Students will write an essay on why they think that the plants and animals live in Turkey and Colorado synthesizing the three different activities and justification for their reasons
