5  Health impacts  25 - 50% of population showing symptoms of flu  10 - 25% of symptomatic cases may develop complications  0.5 - 4% of symptomatic cases may need hospitalisation  6 days average hospital stay for those with severe illness; 11 days if immediately life threatening
