No warm-up; instead, we will be taking a field trip to the library to browse some silent reading books! Get out your list and I’ll briefly outline some of the books on the list… Before we leave, drop off the “Perils of Indifference” speech on the stool.

If you haven’t gotten a silent reading book, get one by next Thursday!!! ABEbooks.com is a great source! Cheap books! The “check” system Check-plus= 100% Check= 80% Check-minus= 60% Diction analysis… For “example” or textual evidence, you need to specifically discuss connotations/associations of one word (diction) rather than a sentence/phrase from the literature. (Resubmit “Rattler” if you wish tomorrow.) Bring your textbook tomorrow.

Reading 3.7: Recognize and understand the significance of various literary devices, including figurative language, imagery, allegory, and symbolism, and explain their appeal.
4
We are going to read “Everyday Use”. As we read, try to annotate the text for important diction and detail that may suggest how the speaker feels about each of the two daughters in the story.
