2. What are The Olympics? The Olympics is a major sporting event, in which, athletes from all around the world compete, to receive medals in many events such as, Swimming, Gymnastics, Track and field and Tennis. The 2012 Olympics will be held in London, therefore many of the English athletes are striving to do their best as, for many of them this could be their last Olympics as they come around every 4 years.

3. Perfect Paralympics Invented by Sir Ludwig Guttmann ( he was a German Jew, who came to England ) from the Stoke Mandeville hospital hosted a sports competition for World War 2 veterans with spinal injuries, they started in 1948 to run alongside the 1948 Olympics. Guttmann’s aim was to create a sports competition for people with disabilities!

4. Stupendous Sports! Shot-put, 400m, 800m, Swimming, Football, Archery, Equestrian, Tennis, Hammer, 100m and many, many more. In every event, the athletes have the chance to compete for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals!

5. Leading the bid, for the Olympics, was Lord (Sebastian) Coe, who in 2005 competed to get England the Olympics. He was successful, rushing into action, they had to build the Olympic stadium, which was finished earlier in 2012. After that they had to plan the route for the Olympic torch to travel along!

6. Olympic Torch Arriving by plane, from Athens, the Olympic flame will travel through the country, passing by Town’s which have been specially selected. After, it has completed it’s journey, it will arrive in the Olympic stadium in time for the opening ceremony were it will light a giant flame which will burn throughout the Games!
