2 1. Help from Google Requirements: Text messaging-enabled mobile device with a text messaging plan. This service is free from Google but charges from your carrier for usage may apply. Google: 466 453 Text google from your cell phone without accessing the internet!

3 1. Help from Google For definitions: D word (ex. d allusion) For translations: t word to Spanish (ex. T hello to Spanish) For conversions: 1 cup to tablespoons or 25 usd in pesos For information: location, city state (ex Walmart Portland, Oregon) For weather: W zip code (W 78596) For more information: http://www.google.com/intl/en_us/mobile/sms/#

4 2. The Two Minute List Students will be given 2 minutes to make a list. This is a quick, no prep needed, way of getting students’ brains warmed up This activity is also a way for you to assess students’ comprehension of a lesson This activity works individually or in groups.

6 3. Vocabulary Quick Draw This games helps students review a list of vocabulary words in a fun, fast paced, and exciting way Students love this game!

7 Have a list of at least 20 words to review Divide students into 2 teams One member of each team will be shown a vocabulary word. It is their job to illustrate the meaning of the word on the board. 3. Vocabulary Quick Draw: The rules

8 The “Artist”: Must not speak Must not give physical signals Must not use letters or numbers as part of the drawing Will not be shown the definition of the word; just the word itself The guessers: Must yell out the correct word as soon as they figure it out Must pronounce the word correctly in order to receive points Must not guess randomly; all answers given must relate to the picture drawn Should not have their vocabulary list to refer to

Color Cards Color cards allow you to get instant feedback on students’ level of understanding A quick glance around the room will immediately tell you which students are understanding and which need more help If you look up to see a rainbow of answers, you can do a quick re-teach of the concept before students get too far behind These cards can also be made for fact and opinion, author’s purpose, and author’s writing patterns
