Look at this picture. Can you label the parts of the plant?

The root has two functions… 1.The roots stabilise the plant in the ground so it does not blow away. 2.The roots absorb water from the soil. Roots

The stem has two functions… 1.The stem carries the water from the roots to the rest of the plant. 2.The stem holds the flower up towards the sunlight. Stem

The flower helps the plant to reproduce (make seeds) through 2 functions: 1.The flowers are brightly coloured and scented to attract insects. 2. To produce pollen. Flower

The leaves have two functions… 1. The leaves take in sunlight to produce energy for the plant. 2. The leaves release waste products. Leaves

In your groups, using the different parts on your table: 1. Make a flowering plant by gluing the parts to the sugar paper. 2. Add labels 3.Snowy Owls, Eagle Owls & Barn Owls: Write the functions of the parts of the plant next to your labels. DON’T FORGET – TEAMWORK!!

We can label the parts of a plant and flower. We know what function these parts play in the life of a flowering plant.
