Subject The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is the only multilateral environmental agreement addressing land issues Governing bodies: COP (every 2 years) CRIC (every year) CST (every 2 years + special sessions) Institutions:Secretariat Global Mechanism 193 country Parties and one regional integration organization (EU), among which 150 affected countries Two obligations:Establish and implement NAP Report regularly to the COP UNCCD

Subject The PRAIS system Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS ) Review of the performance of Convention‘s institutions and bodies (secretariat, GM, CST, CRIC), against biannual work programme based on results-based management approach Assessment of Implementation of the Convention by Parties and other reporting entities

Subject Assessment of implementation of the Convention by Parties and other reporting entities Achievement of operational objectives, against performance indicators (18 Convention’s specific indicators) Assessment of financial flows Achievement od strategic objectives, against impact indicators (11 environmental and sustainable development indicators) Best practices (7 themes, commencing with SLM technologies including adaptation) Assessment of implementation

Subject Assessment of implementation (2) Two compulsory impact indicators for SO 1 and SO 2: 1. Land cover status 2. Population living above the poverty line

Subject Assessment of implementation (3) The CST, using an iterative process, is to refine the set of impact indicators: Application and review of the impact indicators by affected countries; Scientific peer review of the relevance, accuracy and cost- effectiveness of the impact indicators; Possible synergy with relevant programmes, projects and institutions, including those associated with the other Rio conventions; Relevant contributions from UNCCD scientific conferences.

Subject The PRAIS project Reporting tools: glossary, templates and guidelines for performance indicators, financial flows and best practices on SLM Catalytic funding to partially compensate developing countries for the preparation of national reports A web-based portal and on-line facilities to assist country Parties and other reporting entities in the communication of information Training and technical backstopping extended to National Focal Points
