Growing Worship Part One

Worship While we call our public assembly a “worship service”, we must think beyond such a setting for our service to God. We worship God in many ways. Worship is an act of homage towards someone or something It literally means to “kiss towards”

Worship Many ideas of how one can worship God. While we could discuss the many various forms of worship that the world offers to God, It would be better to learn what kind of worship is acceptable to God, and eliminate the rest.

Worship 1 Chronicles 16:29 Give to the LORD the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh, worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness! Revelation 4:11 "You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created."

Worship How do we give God glory? Humble Obedience Address Him in prayer Live a Christian life Cause others to glorify Him. Two things necessary for worship.

Worship John 4:24 "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." Spirit—the emotional aspect from the heart. Truth—the following of what God has given to us in His word.

Worship Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. {2} And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Worship False concept of “all of life is worship” True concept of “all of life is worship” Must be able to distinguish between the two. Physical life and spiritual life are two things. Physical to survive and live in the world. Spiritual to have the mind of spirituality.

Worship If we dedicate our lives to God; Our worship must involve our very being. Our hearts must be into our worship. Our minds must be focused upon action. Our intellect must be guided by faith. This speaks of the lifestyle of the Christian, and not merely the assembly.

Worship The truth mentioned in John 4:24 is the physical side of us. It conveys the ideas of the content of worship and how it is done. The truth is God's way. Since God is truth and since Jesus is truth, and since the Holy Spirit is to guide into all truth, we conclude that when we obey the truth, it is acceptable to God. But then we come up with the question that Pilate asked, "What is truth?”

Worship Many people in this world have their own ideas about the truth. That is why we have thousands of different religions and religious bodies. There are thousands of groups of so- called believers in Christ who have differences in name or practice. This is not right.

Worship The Bible tells us there is but one God. The Bible tells us there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us there is but one Spirit. The Bible tells us there is but one church. Ephesians 4:4-6 The Bible sets the pattern of worship. The Bible gives us the examples of the early church.

Worship When, and if, our practice is the same as then, we know we can be acceptable to God. It is because the truth does not change. Man changes. Man appears to decide what is acceptable worship to God. The truth is that only God can tell us what acceptable worship is. God has told us through the Bible.

Conclusion We must worship God. We worship in Spirit—emotions and in truth—physical action. We must worship from the heart— sincerity. Man offers false empty vain worship. When we follow God’s word, our worship is acceptable to God.
