History of Football The contemporary history of the world's favorite game spans more than 100 years. It all began in 1863 in England, when rugby football and association football branched off on their different courses and the Football Association in England was formed - becoming the sport's first governing body.

Objective of the game Football The aim of the game is to pass the ball from one player outside the end zone to another who's inside, running the ball from the playing field into the end zone, or sometimes kicking the ball through an end zone's goal posts. Player passing the ball

The Field Regulation football fields (minus the end zones) are 100 yards long. Each end zone contains a goal post and is 10 yards long. Yards are measured from each respective end zone's goal line, beginning with 1, until yard markers meet in the middle at the 50 yard line.

Football rules Football is played by two teams, with eleven players from each team on the field at a time. A football field is 120 yards long and 53 1/3 yards wide, including a field of 100 yards and two end zones of ten yards each. A game of football consists of four 12-15 minute quarters, depending on the level of play.

The Players 11 Players can play in a football match, 10 of which play outfield and 1 as the goalkeeper. 24 Players can be selected as the squad for the match. Depending on the league and country, a different amount of substitutions can be made during the match.

Penalties When a penalty is committed in a non- amateur game, one or more of the game's officials will pull a yellow flag out of his pocket and throw it on the field as he blows his whistle. This stops the clock and usually one of the following general penalties is cited.

Football equipment Football requires each player to have a helmet, shoulder pads, football pants, cleats, and a mouth guard. The game is played with a spheroid shape leather ball. A football is 11 inches long and 22 inches in circumference in the middle.
