The Boston Tea Party The colonists became tired of the tax on tea. The British also passed a new Tea Tax. The new tax said that only a British company could supply the tea. This new tax would close colonial tea companies. Because of this colonists refused to drink tea.

The Boston Tea Party On December 1773 a group of colonists dressed as Natives and boarded the British ships that were loaded with tea. They then dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor. As a result of this the British passed newer and stricter laws. These laws were called the Intolerable Acts. These laws closed Boston Harbor and put more troops in Massachusetts.

The First Continental Congress In, 1774 representatives from all colonies met to discuss England’s laws except for Georgia. This meeting took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The meeting was known as the First Continental Congress. During this meeting they discussed loyalty to England. They discussed how they wanted the same rights as the English.

The First Continental Congress The idea of not breaking away from England was not discussed. Instead they talked about how they would work with England. A new spirit came about during this meeting. The spirit of a UNITED AMERICA. Patrick Henry said, “I am not a Virginian, I am an American”. The delegates sent a Declaration of American Rights to England. They listed in this declaration the unfair ways of England.

The First Continental Congress They asked that the Intolerable Acts be lifted. The committee consisted of Samuel Adams, George Washington, John Adams, and Patrick Henry. They agreed to meet again if King George III didn’t act on their declaration. The British did not change so the colonists prepared for war.
