WHAT IS THE DIVIDE ? The Great Dividing Range starts north east of Melbourne and heads east to the New South Wales border. The pretty alpine country offers a wide variety of activites from bushwalking and fishing, to rock climbing and skiing. Whatever time of year it is you should make sure you have a variety of supplies as temperatures can quickly change

Just north east of Melbourne is Lake Eildon National Park and the pretty town of Eildon. There are plenty of water activites you can take part in on the lake, which is the parks main attraction. You can also get to Mt Buller from here, just south of Mansfield. Mt Buller is also home to Victorias largest skiing resort, Mt Buller Alpine Village. The village offers a selection of skiing slopes for all levels, as well as cross country skiing. You can get to Mt Buller on the V/Line buses which run to Mansfield from where you can take the Mansfield-Mt Buller Bus lines to Mt Buller. Activities

Facts The range was firstly home to the Aboriginals there is still some evidence that they were there.

farms In the first decades, farms were made at Parramatta. Later, explorers, most of whom were professional surveyors, were sent or volunteered to travel north and south along the coast, and west into the inland to find sources of fresh water, sites for other settlements and suitable land for grazing sheep and farming.

Crossing the Blue Mountains was a great challenge, and many attempts were made by convicts and adventurers from 1790. The mountains' sandstone labyrinth seemed to go on forever and they seemed impenetrable. After a number of attempts, Blaxland, Wentworth and Lawson (who trained as a surveyor) found their way through in 1813
