MY FAVORITE SPANISH ART BRIDGET JANKOWSKI
3
LA VERÓNICA Artist- El Greco Year Painted- c. 1580 Artistic Era- Mannerism
4
I was drawn to this painting because being a Catholic, I know the story behind the painting and Saint Veronica. The painting is from when Jesus was carrying the cross, Saint Veronica wiped Jesus’s face with her veil. His face then appeared on the cloth just like in the painting. Also, this event is one of the Stations of the Cross, and every year during Easter, I look forward to hearing the Stations of the Cross. Lastly, Saint Veronica is one of my choices for saints to pick for my confirmation. I have known the story of her and have always remembered and liked it. This painting illustrates the story of Saint Veronica very well.

AFRICAN BEACH Artist- Mariá Fortuny Year Painted- 1867 Artistic Era-Realism

This painting caught my eye first off, because of the colors. The colors were lighter and more cheerful than most other paintings and it stood out to me. Also, I love going to the beach and feeling the nice, warm sand on my feet. When I saw this painting, it took mw back to the beach and the sun. Lastly, since the painting is a little blurry and hard to make out exactly what the people in the paint are doing, it lets your imagination choose what you want to see. Everyone will have a different perspective on what the people are doing.

FOOTBALL WORLD CUP,SPAIN1982, MADRID, THE GOALKEEPER Artist- Eduard Arroyo Year Painted- 1982 Artistic Era- Contemporary
10
I liked this painting because I play soccer and I am automatically drawn to anything soccer related. Also, this was painted for the 1982 World Cup which Italy won. Italy is one of my favorite men’s international soccer teams, so I like that Italy won. Lastly, the painting is very simple and has a mysterious feel to it because you only see the back of the goalkeeper’s head.
