1. Between 1790 and 1845, 750 000 immigrants came to Canada from Britain Fewer jobs in Britain Irish immigrants: came for property or because the British wanted them out

2. Some assistance from the British government to settle in Canada Some came to work as tenants on land owned by large landowners Some land companies brought settlers over from Britain for a fee, while some had nothing to do with it, but sold land once they arrived.

3. Some believed they should be given land of their own to farm and become independent  avoid inequalities Others believed they shouldn’t be given land because they were needed to serve as labourers for the wealthy and to grow the economy of the colony.

6. Step 3 Get together with your “expert groups”. There are the other students that were assigned the same topic.

7. Step 4 In your expert groups, discuss the main points of your topic. Take notes as you will be presenting your topic to your peers.

8. Step 5 Return to your pods and present your topic to the group. Others should ask questions for clarification!

9. Step 6 Discuss as a class!
