OPTION 1: CREATIVE ARTS. (You MUST do ONE of the Children’s Parade homeworks) in the next box The theme is Ideas and Innovation in Brighton. We will be basing our entry on roads and parking as there have been lots of ideas about this locally. Some of these things are loved by many and some are hated! 20mph zone Residents’ parking zones Parking tickets and traffic wardens Bike lanes Bus lanes By Wednesday 2 nd March EITHER: Children’s Parade 1 Draw / sketch ideas for the parade using ideas from the box on the left. Design a big build, items you could carry or parking tickets to hand out to spectators! We’d like as much fun as possible! OR: Children’s Parade 2 Write a joke to do with traffic or parking. e.g. Q. What do you do when you see a spaceman? A. Park in it, man! Q. What driver never gets a parking ticket? A. A screw-driver. Art – Portraits Collect a range of portraits from magazines / the internet / own sketches etc. and present them on A4 paper to show in an Art lesson in class. Make sure you have chosen a range of different styles, colours and techniques e.g. paint, pencil, charcoal, collage. PSHE – Time capsule Make a time capsule in a toilet roll, a small box or a bottle. Include a letter inside to whoever might find it in the future. Write down what you would include in the capsule or put objects inside. What important things would you want to tell the person in the future? OPTION 2: LITERACY, MATHS & SCIENCE. Maths Write a dream timetable for a day or a week. Include times of day from when you get up to when you go to bed and while you are asleep! Include a variety of activities that you could do at school and home (not playing all day!). Extension: To make it spicy / hot use the 24hr clock. English Write a biography of a famous person that you admire. Who has made a difference to the world? You can present this as a piece of writing with subheadings or draw pictures and add captions like a storyboard for a film. Science Discoveries in the soil! What has been found in the soil over the years? Think about discoveries made by archaeologists / metal detectors. How have these objects been preserved in the soil for so long? What was special about the soil in which they were found? Don’t forget! Practice your times tables so you have quick recall of the facts and also know the inverse division facts. Log onto Sumdog and complete challenges. Read as often as possible! Read a range of genres e.g. fiction, information books and websites. Downs Junior School Year 4 Homework Grid Spring 2: Brighton Rocks! Complete at least 4 tasks (including tasks in bold). Instructions: Complete at least 4 tasks this half term. A task in bold means you must complete it and hand it in by the given date. We also ask you to complete at least one other English or Maths task alongside other homework of your choosing. Trips can be documented in photo form as well as anything else mentioned in the task. Alongside these tasks we still expect regular reading practice, preferably to an adult, as well as completion of the weekly spelling tasks and regular timetables practice from your booklet.
