2
A soldier in the middle of the desert who needs to completely operate a communication device (radio) by generating all of the energy needed.
3
The system generating the energy should- 1. Produce enough electricity to run radio constantly. 2. Be easy to operate. 3. Not affect the soldiers performance ( light weight, camoflauge). 4. Be environmentally friendly
4
Keep a radio continuously running -radio uses about 400 watts/day- so we must produce at least this Produce this 400 watts/day only using renewable energy
5
Solar panels which uses the sun to generate energy Body back which uses body heat to generate energy Friction panels which can be either manually slid or slid as a result of walking, this will generate energy Clothes out of nanofibers that create electricity when you move around Hand Crank
6
We chose kinetic and solar energy as our most viable options for renewable energy
7
Radio-100$ Suspended load system –300$ Solar panels-65$ Charger system(solar panel+ load system)-365$ The costs are not an issue with a military budget
9
1-2 vertical inch hip movement Frame of backpack separate from the load; this allows the capture of kinetic energy Load suspended from frame by vertical springs Gear turns a generator creating electricity
10
- Charging system consists of solar panels and suspended load system combined by a diode; the device then plugs into the charger - The combination of two renewable energy sources- solar and kinetic – meets our target specifications by producing more energy than is consumed -Suspended load system - 7.5 watts after an hour of walking -Solar panels – 80 watts/hour – 400 watts/day -Radio uses – 300 watts/day
