TDS Curator goal The Typological Database System (TDS) currently provides integrated access to multiple independently developed typological databases through a common web interface. While the system is currently operational, TDS Curator will make the TDS into a sustainable service that conforms to CLARIN infrastructural requirements. 9/21/20102CLARIN-NL - Call 1 - ISOcat status The Typological Database System (TDS) currently provides integrated access to multiple independently developed typological databases through a common web interface. TDS data model 9/21/2010CLARIN-NL - Call 1 - ISOcat status3 Domain expert Database developerTDS Knowledge engineer Topic taxonomies (SKOS) Global linguistic ontology (OWL) Local database ontologies (DTL) Database schemata (any DDL)
4
Possible data categories - I Notions from the local database ontologies – http://languagelink.let.uu.nl/tds/static/notions.html http://languagelink.let.uu.nl/tds/static/notions.html – Range from generic to highly database and theory specific – Idea: take the data categories from the top-level scopes TDS: language identification, coarse phenomena hierarchy (container data categories?) Possible phonemes: descriptions of all kinds of phonetic segments … 9/21/2010CLARIN-NL - Call 1 - ISOcat status4
5
Possible data categories - II Concepts from the global linguistic ontologies – http://languagelink.let.uu.nl/tds/static/taxonomy- onto.html http://languagelink.let.uu.nl/tds/static/taxonomy- onto.html – Linguistic phenomena, linguistic properties and linguistic relations – Idea: use almost the same strategy as used for GOLD Determine cut off concept: – Concept: closed DC – Descendants: simple DC hierarchy – Ancestors: ignore, or container DCs 9/21/2010CLARIN-NL - Call 1 - ISOcat status5
6
Relation Registry Notions and concepts are heavily interlinked – If both end up as data categories in ISOcat their relationship can be stored in the RR Concepts have additional relationships next to the is-a hierarchy – sameAs, distinct, partOf relationships – Roles in reified linguistic relations – If both end up as data categories in ISOcat their relationship can be stored in the RR 9/21/2010CLARIN-NL - Call 1 - ISOcat status6
