2 Parts of Greek Drama The Prologue (Prologos) The opening portion of the play, which sets the scene and contains the exposition. The Parados The entrance song of the chorus which chants the lyric of the main theme; Named after the aisles on either side of the theatron, where the chorus entered and exited.

3 Parts of Greek Drama (Cont.) The Episodes (Scenes) Scene in the action of the drama; Plot is developed through action and dialogue; These scenes are distinguished by the stasimons, which are performed by the chorus. Stasimons (Odes) A choral passage, alternating with episodes of plot of the drama; It is a type of lyric poem which uses exalted, dignified diction.

4 Parts of Greek Drama (Cont.) Stasimons (Cont.) The chorus sang and danced the tragic odes accompanied by musical instruments; Signifies the end of an episode. Exodus The concluding section of the tragedy; The exodus ends with the members of the chorus singing their final lines as they exit.

5 The Chorus The Chorus creates a link between the actors and the audience, who usually consisted of common people. This character participates in the play and acts as an observer of the play. Helps the structure of the Greek Drama by signifying changes in the scene or mood.
