Our Approach to Business Education: Conceptual Knowledge across business disciplines-a focus on what we need to “know” as business professionals—marketing, finance, accounting, operations, human resource management, operations, etc. Practical Competence in the practice of business-a focus on what we need to be able to “do” as business professionals—function in teams, communicate effectively, thrive in multicultural environments, etc. Strength of Character-the ability to lead and achieve results with integrity.

Prerequisites to be taken in the Freshman year ECN 150-Principles of Economics MTH 111- Calculus with Analytic Geometry I OR MTH 112-Calculus with Analytic Geometry II (for Mathematical Business majors) You must make a C or better in the prerequisites to satisfy the requirement. AP credit for any of these courses will satisfy the School of Business prerequisite.

Prerequisites to be taken in the Sophomore Year ACC 111*-Financial Accounting (to be taken fall of the sophomore year) with a grade of C or better. Must have sophomore status to register for this course. One additional business course (to be taken spring of the sophomore year)-optional. *ACC 111 cannot be taken outside of Wake Forest. (Transfer students who took the course prior to attending WFU, may request to take and must pass a validation exam to receive credit)

The Application Process Application to the School of Business occurs in January of the sophomore year. Admission is competitive. Minimum requirements for consideration of admission: Completion of 49 hours with an cumulative grade point average of 2.7 Completion of ECN 150, MTH 111 or MTH 112) and ACC 111 (with a minimum of C in each course). One additional business course (ACC 221, BEM 201, 221, 251, 261, or FIN 231) offered spring of the sophomore year-optional. Students who have not met fully the above requirements may request a one-semester provisional acceptance.

The Application Process (cont.) How to Apply Attend the School of Business Sophomore Orientation which will include: **An overview of majors, special programs and international opportunities. **Instructions on accessing the online application. Submit an online application: **Overall GPA **Grades in the prerequisite courses **Application essay **Register for DeaconSource **Upload your resume into DeaconSource Wait for decision email notification in mid-February.

Tips for getting in! Work to establish a competitive cumulative GPA (average GPA for acceptance last spring-3.4). Earn good grades in the prerequisites (As and Bs).

Suggestion #1: Register for DeaconSource DeaconSource registration is required for the School of Business application. Access internships and share your career interests to be informed of events and opportunities targeted to you.

Suggestion #2: Take Career Classes CNS 120: Explore and understand the majors offered at WFU and how majors relate to career options. Consider the values and skills that have helped you reach your goals. CNS 220: Explore the range of careers available. Consider which careers will best align with your interests and goals. Do informational interviews with professionals and begin to build a professional network.

Suggestion #3: Build a Strong Resume Gain new experiences —join a club, volunteer in the community or start your own group! Seek and record results to build your resume. Review sample resumes on the OPCD site. Create your own and visit the OPCD for a resume review (available weekdays) to polish the resume. A resume is required for the School of Business application.

Suggestion #4: Study Hard Some employers have minimum GPA cut-offs of 3.5, 3.2, or 3.0. Your grades these first two years will determine which doors will be open for internship and program opportunities.

Suggestion #5: Gain Exposure to Careers Attend career panels, company information sessions, and industry bootcamps. Participate in job shadow opportunities. Secure an internship, or create one, to try out and develop a career path. Internships are necessary to compete for full-time jobs. Career events, job shadow opportunities, and internships are posted throughout the year on DeaconSource. Wake in the World Study Abroad!

Study Abroad All School of Business majors can study abroad with proper planning and location selection. Spring of the sophomore year is the ideal time to study abroad for School of Business majors. The School of Business will allow 6 hours of credit to be brought into the major from outside of Wake Forest (approved non- Wake Forest study abroad).

Study Abroad (cont.) Each non-Wake study abroad major course must be approved for each individual student by the School of Business. FIN majors must take all FIN and upper level ACC courses at Wake. ACC majors must take all ACC classes at Wake MBU majors can take 2 Business or 2 Math or 1 business and 1 math total to fulfill the elective requirement.
