To offer an opportunity for members of the community to participate in a fun, science-based astronomy experience.

Frequency ?: Bi-Monthly 1 hr meetings at the Museum Who ?: Club is open to all ages, but parents should be realistic. Astronomy is a outdoor, winter evening activity. The level of “science” will be dictated by the age of the membership. If there is a large contingency of younger members, I will hold separate club meetings specifically for them. What can we expect ? Meetings will be conducted in a “typical” club style. Attendance. / Welcome / Pledge of Allegiance. Reading of the minutes of last meeting. Distribute and discuss the current weekly “sky tips” Members to share and discuss any relative news or observations made since last meeting Presentation Snack & Adjourn

Ideally there will be a rotation within the membership To make a presentation of their choice, exploring some relevant aspect of astronomy or space related science. This can be a power point, video, hands on show & tell etc. Discussion, Q&A to follow.

As with any “legitimate club” there are many volunteer opportunities to help the club run smoothly and be fun! We will need help with : * Set-up and break down of the meetings A Secretary to keep track of meeting minutes A Treasurer if we as a group decide to collect money A Website /Social Media administer A club photographer Steering committee members to plan activities Snack person ( have to have munchies!)

Every member should have: An astronomy notebook A red-light flashlight A Compass A Planisphere A good attitude! This is science, but it must be fun

The club will make efforts to bring guest speakers to talk to the members. There are many people of experience and expertise that can share their knowledge with us!

Star-Parties! The real fun of astronomy is getting outside at night and observing! The club will have as many Star-Parties as possible, given the weather and seeing conditions. Everyone is encouraged to participate. The club has access to high quality telescopes and most people have binoculars of some sort. Bundle up, be a scientist!

We can visit places of interest to the club, such as The Schenectady Museum & Planetarium Maybe even a bus trip now and again to science museums and planetariums !! (NYC, Boston, etc)
