IRONY Irony: is the difference between what is expected and the reality, the difference between what is said and what is meant When your friend comes into class you see his new shoes and say, “Nice shoes,” but in reality you think they look horrendous.

Symbol Anything that stands for or represents something else beyond it ex. a flag can also stand for unity and patriotism

Foreshadowing The use of hints and clues by the author to suggest what's going to happen Exp. A name, an object he/she carries
