Chrysler building in New York opened 20 May1930. Designed by William Van Alen for Chrysler. Was the first man made structure to stand taller than 1000 feet.

There are many examples of Art Deco posters. They use streamlined images, shapes and colours. They often used stylised cars, boats in motion and sophisticated women.

Women are a real focus in 1920’s and 30’s advertisements. Often depicting glamorous lifestyles including travel and smoking. Coco Chanel revolutionised women’s fashion by designing the first loose fitting jersey, wide legged pants and comfortable, simple clothes.

Art Deco designs had a huge influence over the motor vehicle industry. Here we can see evidence of the smooth, stremlined designs.

Bugatti 41 Royale In 1928 Ettore Bugatti designed the 41 Royale. Only six Royales were built between 1929 and 1933, with just three sold to external customers. Intended for royalty, none were eventually sold to any royals, and Bugatti even refused to sell one to King Zog of Albania, claiming that "the man's table manners are beyond belief!"
