Part 2 – Shadow Tracking Main Ideas/Content Effects of the Sun – Damage to the skin is caused by the Sun’s ultraviolet radiation. Sun’s rays are strongest between 10 am -2 pm – Melanin is responsible for variations in the color of human skin. – It is especially dangerous to look at the Sun during a solar eclipse. – The Sun is the best source of Vitamin D.

Part 2 – Shadow Tracking Shadows – The Sun is always on the side of the object that is opposite the shadow. – The Sun’s position in the sky changes. The higher the sun is in the sky, the shorter the shadows are. The Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. The Sun is highest in the sky around noon.

Part 2 – Shadow Tracking Vocabulary Compass – an instrument used to determine direction. The needle always points to magnetic north. Sun – star around which Earth and the other planets revolve. It gives us heat, light, and energy. Direction – course or line along which something moves, lies, or points. Pigment – a chemical that reflects or carries light. Corona – extremely bright ring of light around the edge of the Sun, that is only visible during a solar eclipse
