3.  Being a Muslim country, Christmas is not recognized by most of the population. Instead they celebrate New Years a lot like we celebrate Christmas.  They celebrate New Years eve on December 31st

4. Merry Christmas in Turkish  This is how they say “Merry Christmas” in Turkish “Mutlu Noeller”

5.  Turkish people call Santa Claus Noel Baba  Santa is associated with New Years Eve not Christmas  Santa is known to deliver New Year presents

8.  New years eve decorations are like our Christmas decorations.  They decorate the tree with red and green.  They put up lights through out their homes and the streets

On New Years they have big family dinners with family and friends Zante currant- Pimento-Dill pilaf, Dolma, and Baklava and other eggplant dishes.  Borek with meat peppers and onions  Baklava phyllo pastry, nuts, and honey  Dolma cabbage leaves stuffed with tomato, peppers, zucchini, onion, garlic, and eggplant

10.  In Turkey on New Years Eve, state TV channels announce the winning numbers of a New Years national lottery just before midnight. Lots of people buy tickets for the lottery hoping to win lots of money.
