Muscular System
2
Muscular System Includes Cardiac muscles Smooth muscles Skeletal muscles
3
Its function is to… Allow body to move Aid in circulation Help with digestion
4
Structure info: Cardiac muscle- involuntary (we cannot control them) are striated and found ONLY in heart. Smooth muscle- involuntary (we do not control them) - found in digestive organs and blood vessel walls. Contract rhythmically without getting tired. Skeletal muscles- voluntary (we control them) striped and striated. Move bones, skeletal muscles work in pairs. One extends and one contracts. Muscles always pull; never push. Tendons attach bones to muscles
5
How is structure and function related? Muscles are structured around the length of your bones to help your bones move.
6
Taking care… Nutrition, well-balanced diet Regular exercise Sleep(good for muscle regeneration)

Diseases/Conditions of the muscles: Muscular dystrophy, or MD, is an inherited muscle disease that causes muscle fibers to become incredibly susceptible to harm. Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. The pain associated with fibromyalgia often is described as a constant dull ache, typically arising from muscles.

FUN facts: The body has over 630 muscles, which make up almost half of its total weight. Eye muscles are one of the busiest muscles in your body: scientists believe they move more than 100,000 times a day. The largest muscle in your body is called the gluteus maximus, which is the muscle in your buttock.
