Egg Osmosis Experiment By: Kim Lontoc Room: 873 By: Kim Lontoc Room: 873

Purpose: To observe osmosis in a cell. 1) Place eggs in vinegar to remove shell. 2) Measure weight of egg. 3)Measure size of egg. 4) Place one egg in water, place other egg in corn syrup. 5) Weight and measure eggs again.

Hypothesis: Egg in Corn Syrup 1. Weight may be heavier. 2. Size may look the same. 3. Might look glossy, shiny, sticky. Egg in corn syrup – weight, size, look like Egg in water – weight, size, look like. Egg in corn syrup – weight, size, look like Egg in water – weight, size, look like.

Hypothesis: Egg in Water 1.Weight may be lighter. 2.Size might look bigger. 3.Might look clear and not visible. Egg in Water 1.Weight may be lighter. 2.Size might look bigger. 3.Might look clear and not visible.

Observations: Chart with Results Column 1BeforeAfter Corn Syrup W 71.5 g S 16 cm W 50.6 g S 14.5 cm Water/H2O W 71.4 g S 16 cm W 87.5 g S 18.5 cm

Observations: 3 visual observations Bubbles going up. When shells got out vinegar, result was bouncy and squishy. After 24 hours, lots of foam near top of beaker. Bubbles going up. When shells got out vinegar, result was bouncy and squishy. After 24 hours, lots of foam near top of beaker.

Conclusion: Became larger because water moved into egg. Because egg had lower concentration of water. Moved from higher concentration>lower concentration. 9 Conclusion: Egg in Water: Hypothesis was wrong because I thought: Weight: Heavy because molecules are bigger and egg would be too. (Egg was smaller) Size: Big because egg would absorb water. (Egg was smaller) Appearance: Clear because water is clear. (Looked fatter) Egg in Corn Syrup: Hypothesis was wrong because I thought: Weight: Heavy because molecules are bigger and egg would be too. (Egg was light and small) Size: Molecules might be too big and can’t absorb corn syrup as much as water. (Egg was smaller) Appearance: Glossy, shiny, sticky. (Dented and deflated)
