2 Objectives  I can understand the math CRA approach.  I can use concrete and representational strategies to teach number knowledge.

3 Table Talk  What math skills do students lack most?  Share out  The ability to compose and decompose numbers fluently.  Basic facts: Teaching math without basic facts is like trying to read only knowing 20/26 letters.

4 Foundational Skills Three key areas that must be in place: 1. Conceptual understanding 2. Number sense 3. Accurate computation

6 Number Knowledge  Number knowledge builds number sense.  The more we investigate numbers the better we understand math and how to teach it.  One strategy we can do to help with students’ understanding of number knowledge is to start each math lesson with a number knowledge exploration.
