2. Abstract המעבדה למערכות ספרתיות מהירות High speed digital systems laboratory 2 The purpose of the Wisdom Stone project is to enable road monitoring with minimal operational effort. The solution is a simple low-cost system that has been developed over several projects. The system components are a sensor device, located in the road substrate, server-based PC software and a communication box (Hub). The Hub is a mediator between the sensor and the server, which receives real-time data from all system components. Our specific goal was to establish communication between the server and the sensor device through the Hub. In this project, we designed the Hub as a standalone unit that can be located in the vicinity of the road. In our implementation, commands sent from the server are transported through an Android Smartphone and via a communication plug, which is connected with a USB serial cable inside the Hub. As a part of the Hub configuration, we have designed and implemented a power management system. The Hub receives its power supply from a charge control unit that connected to a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and a solar panel. Hub events are monitored and controlled by using a maintenance unit. This unit reads indications regarding the battery level and charging status and, In addition it can reset the Smartphone or the USB connection.
