2 Background of the Issue  The United Nations has resources and representatives around the world; therefore, it is considered a mandate for the UN to respond to disaster because no single government can handle emergency situations by themselves. The UN… Coordinates with other organizations’ relief efforts Ensures help is provided where needed Uses own resources to deliver basic needs (food, medicine, etc.)

3 Background of the Issue Who’s involved?  Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) generally work under the UN to provide aid for disaster stricken areas. NGOs are nonprofit organizations that can be local or international (INGO)
