Course expectations Read and follow requirements for assignments in the Syllabus, Announcements, in the Unit Tabs and in Doc Sharing Keep current with your reading and written assignments Submit assignments on time Use college-level writing – format, content, spelling and grammar – Use the Writing Center and Rules for Writers Be familiar with the late assignment policy contained in the Syllabus

Late Assignments A maximum penalty of 5% per week will be assessed on all late work, and no late work will be accepted more than 3 weeks after the original due date or after the conclusion of Unit 9 without prior instructor approval. Standing approval to submit any and all late assignments, at any time, before the end of the term (Nov 29), subject to a maximum penalty of 5% per week. I will not accept assignments after the last day of class unless you have arranged for an Incomplete Grade.

Discussion Boards Proper netiquette required APA required (esp. if you use quotations) Incorporate your experience and practical knowledge; incorporate course readings Use proper grammar and write in complete sentences Purpose of the boards – To test your knowledge – To stimulate discussion – To learn from each other

Discussion Boards-cont’d Some Discussion boards include TWO questions (Units 1 thru 4, and Unit 6) Others include only ONE question (Units 7 thru 9) Different rules apply depending on the number of questions. See Discussion Board Expectations Announcement.

Discussion Boards—cont’d Two questions (Units 1-4, Unit 6) RULE: Post a response to each DB question and at least one student post per question, for a total of 2 posts per question, or 4 posts in total. -- Minimum of 2 posts per question -- Total of 4 posts (minimum) -- All posts express critical thought and advance discussion

Seminars Participation required Complete assigned readings before seminar Don’t be bashful, and don’t fear giving a “wrong” answer Missed Seminars: listen to archived seminar and write 300-500 word essay on seminar topic(s); submit to DocSharing before end of unit

Seminar Topics: Tonight Eight separate forms of terrorism prevalent in the United States today. (See Chapter 4, under the heading "Specific Types of Terrorism“) Arguments for or against the classification of single issue or special interest groups, such as anti- abortion, environmental, and animal rights groups, as terrorist groups as defined by the FBI. Do their actions fall within the scope of the definition of terrorism as you understand it?
