4 Standardised Testing vs Authentic Assessment Reduces children’s rich and complex lives to a collection of scores, percentiles and grades Creates stresses that negatively affect a child’s performance Pressures teachers to narrow their curriculum to only what is tested on the exam Gives the teacher a felt sense of the child’s unique experience as a learner Provides interesting, active, lively and exciting experiences Allows teachers to develop meaningful curricula and assess within the context of that program Armstrong, T.
