Networks ∙ Services ∙ People www.geant.org Defined in the ToR of TERENA Technical Programme approved by GA in 1999 ToR is a framework for community based innovation activities, defining Task Forces Pilot Projects Interest areas TTC does not report to Board or to GA but ToR give responsibility for the Technical Programme to the VP Technical Programme, a function that is not in the present Board TTC acts as a sounding board of community experts to provide input on activities managed by (former TERENA) staff The mandate of the TTC extended until end of 2015 Together with the VP start a review of the ToR of the Technical Programme that suits the future purpose of GÉANT, in particular by include Innovation in the scope widened scope; i.e. not just technical 3 Future of TTC (from Porto GA meeting)

Networks ∙ Services ∙ People www.geant.org Internal: Positive input to coordination with PMF, PLM instruments Support for holistic approach, wider context that GN4 project Positive opportunity to provide structure to current “Innovation Programme” brand NREN who attended the VC: amongst other, GARR, FCCN, GRNET, CESNET, NORDUnet, SURFnet, SWITCH, LITNET, NIIF, HEANet, DFN.. crucial framework and body to operate at the level of the association and with a broader scope than the GEANT project alone. Ability to kickoff process in agile way, provide a structure for community to look into new ideas, debate them, and then facilitate the take up following appropriate internal GÉANT structure community focus is key: to help members to come together and do best what’s important for them. There are lots of bodies that do stuff for the GÉANT project and we should not make this another body like that, it should rather support members at being better at their business at home ongoing mechanism, platform and processes for anchoring the management of innovation/research in the community, support quick and prompt action, without complex administrative overhead 5 Feedback obtained so far (highlights)

Our community collaboration should extend beyond innovation The (next) GN projects focus on TRL 6 and above. Special Interest Groups Similar to task forces, also community based and largely volunteering activities, but last longer and focus on community building, best-practice dissemination and knowledge exchange rather than on tasks and deliverables. Workshops One-of-a-kind or series of meetings, (un)conferences or BoFs organised around a specific topic of interest. Pilot projects or R&D part of projects small or large community projects administered/commissioned by GÉANT Advise executive and project management (how on next page) advising the executive on services and new services to serve advising the GPPC on future topics and the project management on technical issues 10 Type of activities
