Students can be divided into groups by components: water, soil, seeds, sunlight, air, flowers Each group can explain the significance of their component. Students can then move into heterogeneous groups and create small group displays or the whole class can do one big one.

WHAT’S GROWING IN THE GARDEN OF REPRESENTATIVE SELF-GOVERNMENT? Flowers=Virginia House of Burgesses, Mayflower Compact (1620), Fundamental Orders of Connecticut, Pennsylvania’s Frame of Government, town meetings The flower petals should describe/define the example of self- government.

WHAT COMPONENTS MAKE GROWTH POSSIBLE? SUNLIGHT Sunlight= Distance between the Great Britain and the 13 colonies; Rays of sunshine should explain the significance of the distance salutary neglect- practice of England ignoring the economic and political actions of the 13 colonies
