Key terms apotheosis The fact or action of becoming or making into a god; deification. bucrania (sg. bucanium) A skull of a bull that was used for decoration. damnatio memoriae A phrase from Latin meaning "the condemnation of one's memory", a dishonor given by the Roman Senate to particularly hated Emperors. Princeps This title was given to Augustus in 27 BCE by the Roman Senator, signifying that he was first among equals. It become a non-military title of the emperors. Latin for "first.
