NCCU is an HBCU 8500 undergraduate students 350 Biology majors General Biology I The first course for biology majors, other science majors, and those students who will be taking upper-level courses in biology. 4 credit hours = 3 lecture hours and 2 laboratory hours per week

Will implementing daily quizzes motivate my students to study on a continual basis? Will implementing daily quizzes increase class performance?

Implement short (5 ?) daily class quizzes Similar format to exam questions (multiple choice, short answer) Compose 10% of final grade Questions will be drawn from previous class material or student preparation for new material Control group 2 concurrent sections of colleague’s General Biology I course All other course material (exams, labs, etc.) is the same. Methods of Evaluation Pre- and Post-test of content Weekly study logs with participation points as extra credit. Exam performance Final grade performance Attitude Survey Follow-up survey to assess study habits in General Biology II
