Reading Process Vocabulary -words, origins, and meanings Fluency -accurately, automatically, and with expression Comprehension- understanding especially high level critical thinking questions The tumultuous claps of thunder accompanied by sporadic flashes of lightning indicated that a thunderstorm was lurking.

WRITING- 3 forms of writing- argumentative, explanatory, narrative Reading/writing connection-responses to reading, compare/contrast, cause and effect, follow directions. Demonstrates student understanding of various genres of reading

SPEAKING & LISTENING- to develop a range of broadly useful oral communication and interpersonal skills express and listen carefully to ideas of peers Presentation of material gathered

LANGUAGE- essential “rules” of standard written and spoken English Conventions-spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and paragraphing effective use-properly spoken and written Vocabulary-acquiring new words and meanings, understanding words within the context of a sentence, and their relationship to each other
