8 Copyright © 2014–2015 ADP, LLC Roles and Responsibilities RoleResponsibility Approving Authority The approving authority is the person in the company who has financial authority to assign a budget and approve a compensation event by identifying its financial impact. The approving authority might be the vice president of human resources, CEO, or a division head, for instance. PractitionerThe practitioner allocates the budget to all managers who are responsible for awarding compensation, from the highest-level manager to the lowest-level manager. The practitioner submits all compensation recommendations to the approving authority for final approval. Manager’s Manager The manager’s manager is the next-level manager from the lowest-level manager who is making compensation recommendations. ManagerThe manager is the lowest-level manager responsible for awarding compensation such as merit increases to direct reports.

You can choose to apply a rating scale or, if you use ADP Workforce Now Performance, a performance policy. Guidelines may then be defined as a percentage or dollar amount.

Once approved, the following occurs: The event status changes to Ready for Payroll Processing. The practitioner receives notification through the Message Center that the event is ready for payroll processing. RejectThe approving authority can reject the event, with or without changes that he or she makes. Once rejected, the following occurs: The event status does not change. The practitioner receives a notification through the Message Center that the event is suspended. The practitioner reviews the Compensation worksheets again, makes any necessary adjustments, and resubmits the worksheets for approval.
