Learning outcomes The main learning outcomes for this lesson are: Learn what a payslip looks like and understand what all the deductions are. Learn when you can get paid e.g. weekly, monthly, etc. Learn what the minimum wage is.

Activity Hand out the worksheet called Payslips. You will need to answer all questions on the sheet. You have 10 minutes!

Payslips Every week or month you will be given a payslip from the company you are working for. They may not all look the same but they will have the basic information on it that we have discussed earlier. It is very important you check your payslip every month. You want to check that the amounts are correct and that you are paying the right amount of tax and National Insurance. If you notice that you are paying too much tax or National Insurance then you must check your tax code. If this is wrong then you will need to get into contact with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

Minimum wage Almost everyone who legally works in the UK must get a minimum level of pay. This is called the national minimum wage. You can be paid more than the national minimum wage but you must not be paid less.
