Origin of our Logo and Name Origin of Name: ●Comes from the Latin word “magnes” (magnet) ● Also may come from “magnesia nigri”, (black magnesia), which is the name of the compound MnO 2. Symbol on Logo: first and third letters of “manganese”

Chemical Information: ●Manganese does not react in water ●It burns in oxygen Mn 3 O 4 and in nitrogen to form Mn 3 N 2 ●Manganese dissolves in acids ●Mn 2+ is extremely reactive with halogens
