Lamont The measurements could be used to estimate the residual dose rate during the TS in 2012 and the LS1 Referring to Feb. 2012 detailed measurements done on TANs and on the detectors, the scaling factors are: 8 for 2012 TS4 (Oct. 2012) → essentially driven by the peak luminosity (factor of 2 with respect to the last TS in 2011) and derived from the different cooling time (factor 4 from 3 months cooling time to 1 week cooling time) 3 for LS1 → essentially driven by the integrated luminosity

8 8 LTEX Meeting - May 10 th, 2012 F UTURE SITUATION – 2012 TS4 AND LS1 Residual dose rate (maximum values) on contact (  Sv/h) → Higher values are expected for the Cu/SS bars

In case of problems 2 physicists from LHCf will have to work on top of the TAN for a period which depends on the kind of problem (typically 15-60 min) 80160 15 Mechanical commissioning (manipulator) ( 8 h ) 30 2 physicists from LHCf Test performed mainly from USA15. One physicist is required to stay on top of the TAN for 30 minutes maximum 40 16 Bring back detector shielding boxes 10 1 physicists from LHCf TAN->PM15 11 17 Exit the zone 10 2 physicists from LHCf TAN->PM15 00

11 11 LTEX Meeting - May 10 th, 2012 LHCf RE - INSTALLATION – TS4 Concerned Person Individual Dose (  Sv) 1 st LHCf physicist134 2 nd LHCf physicist175 DGS/RP technician12 1 st operator from EN/HE20 2 nd operator from EN/HE20 1 st operator from BE/ABP? 2 nd operator from BE/ABP? Collective Dose 361  Sv + 2 x ? Summarizing: The estimated dose are done considering the maximum dose rate the position of the worker (TAN aisle, TAN top or side). The doses for the BE/ABP operators are missing (need to be understood what “ around the TAN region ” means)

12 C ONCLUSIONS The residual dose rate measurements show Comparable values between L and R The evolution of the activation can be estimated Based on the simulation results Based on the evolution of the operational parameters The residual dose rate expected in the last TS in 2012 (TS#4) is 8 times higher than in Feb. 2012 Individual and Collective doses are calculated using the job plan provided by LTEX coordination team and the estimated residual dose rate for the TS#4 (conservative values are taken into account) the Work and Dose Planning has to be prepared by the experiment people - that really knows the procedure - with RP helping and advising 12 LTEX Meeting - May 10 th, 2012
