Data and Analysis Update density mapping study Survey large food manufacturers/processors to get more information on their organics generation Conduct further analysis of organics portion of waste stream from Massachusetts waste composition studies Provide updated information on Massachusetts food waste processors and haulers (e.g., what type of materials do they accept, quantities, collection type, etc.) Assess food waste generation data from state facilities

Collection Priorities Continue focus on larger generators Next priority sectors: Hotels Colleges/universities Hospitals, other large institutions Food service companies, distributors Build route density around larger generators

Collection Infrastructure Support Provide up to date generation information Work with target sectors to pilot collection efforts Test various collection methods Provide funding to offer technical assistance to generators in establishing collection programs Disseminate information on success stories and recognize specific efforts

Next Steps Prepare specific recommendations on what MassDEP and others should do Define specific sectors for fact sheets/case studies Prepare updated data and analysis as recommended Establish industry sector connections More discussion on building end markets Begin to plan and design waste ban for commercial/institutional organics (for 2014)
