How are the test marked, scored and reported? SPAG paper for punctuation, vocabulary and grammar plus a 20 word spelling paper ( sentences, fill in missing word) 50 marks and 20 marks so spelling carries 29% of the total mark. There are now statutory spellings and spelling patterns.( see sheet) This term we are revising all KS 2 spelling patterns.

SPAG test= content from all learning across school. Look at grammar glossary. There are changes in terminology so the old revision books will be outdated Mainly the use of connective has been replaced with more specific terms. E.g. Subordinating conjunction, adverbs, adverbials.

Reading 50 marks, 60 minutes The two main areas assessed are retrieval of facts and inferring from the text. Speed and accuracy are very important. They need to practise skimming and scanning. Look at the kinds of reading material that Y6 should be engaging with.( see samples) See sample tests. Teacher assessment. No best fit for teacher assessment. They must have all the statements.

Mathematics The mental maths test is replaced by a context free arithmetic test( 40 marks, 30 minutes). They have to use the standard method to get the mark( see appendix sheet). There are 2 papers of mathematical reasoning. ( 35 marks each, 40 minutes each) See sample papers.

What is new to the curriculum and test? Size of number to 1,000,000 Know prime numbers. Add and subtract fractions. Know and use angle rules. Use long multiplication and long division Algebra involving 1 or 2 unknowns Find the perimeter of compound shapes Calculate the mean average. Find fractions and percentages of whole number quantities.

Scaled Scores Children’s raw scored will be converted to a scaled score to ensure that each year can be related to the next. 100 will represent the national standard. The scaled score cannot be set in advance. Parents will be told if they have met the standard and the scaled score.

How to be Prepared? Get used to working at a pace and without getting distracted.( see homework revision books) Use MyMaths Use the revision books Use websites http://www.compare4kids.co.uk/maths.php http://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/ks2 http://www.mathsisfun.com/
