Introduction of articles Indefinite articles: a/an Used with: singular countable nouns „ a” before consonant sound (a unique experience) „an” before vowel sound (an umbrella) things mentioned for the first time, not being specific Definite article: the Used with: With singular countable nouns With plural countable and uncountable nouns Before a consonant and a vowel things being specific

Articles a/an - examples TIME: in an hour, in a second WORK AND PEOPLE: have a job, work as a teacher, a very nice American PLACES: Is there a beach? ENTERTAIMENT: Play us a song! EDUCATION: have a lesson, take an exam TRAVEL: catch a bus, take a taxi HEALTH: have a cold, have a headache ORGANIZATIONS: Does Japan have an army?

Zero article We use with (talking generally): Singular uncountable nouns Don’t let your young child use scissors unsupervised Plural count. and uncountable nouns An artist always needs inspiration Other expressions like: at December, at night,in 2010,be in class, on foot, go by car, play tennis, watch TV, be at work, Russians, Berlin, America.
