1 Board Report – Performance January 2008 Produced by Business Intelligence (Performance)

2 There has been substantial progress around infection control. The rates of C diff in acute trusts have fallen very substantially, and even in the recent periods of high activity and norvirus outbreaks we have not seen significant increases in C diff. The rates of C diff acquired within the community are still over trajectory, but rates have fallen by over a third in the last six months, and with the launch of antibiotic guidelines and renewed focus around optimising prescribing practice and infection control in primary and community control we anticipate further improvement Although we have breached our threshold for MRSA for the whole year, this is largely attributable to performance early in the year and rates have fallen. Now over 50% of cases that are reported against trusts are likely to have been acquired within the community We now have a stronger primary care team that will work with primary care providers to improve performance and decrease infection control risks Cleanliness and HCAI

3 SECAmb performance for Cat A < 8 mins, currently stands at 73.8% Nov YTD, to reach 75% target for year they need to reach 75% in Dec and 79% each month for Jan to Mar. This trajectory was not achieved in November, with the Cat A monthly performance of 76.1%. Category A 19 and B 19 performance are both above target for the month and year to date. The high level of activity at the end of November and continuing into December means that performance has dropped. The Trust has asked commissioners for financial support to enable independent ambulance provision. The extent to which this is above the level of funding through the price for over activity is being discussed. The Trust has been asked for their assessment of the impact on performance over the whole year, however, much will depend on the length of time the pressure continues. Emergency Care

4 Emergency Care - Focused Wards: Cat A (8 min) Calls Wards with >100 calls (Jan-Nov) and <50% Performance See Appendix A - SECAmb Cat A (8 min) Performance MIS Package – November 08 for further details. A range of measures including 24/7 community response teams are being targeted at specific wards this winter. An update on these projects appears at Appendix B.

5 Emergency Care - Focused Wards: Cat A (8 min) Calls Wards with >100 calls (Jan-Nov) and <50% Performance See Appendix A - SECAmb Cat A (8 min) Performance MIS Package – November 08 for further details.

6 Performance for November is below target due to backlog clearance at Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre (SOTC). Decembers position is challenged by the significant increase in Emergency admissions and cancellations, particularly at WASH and the PCT forecast for December is 87%. There is a recovery plan in place at WASH and significant work at SOTC resulting in 18-week Referral To Treat target (RTT) delivery in January. November Unify returns shows a higher position. This is an error and will be rectified for next months publication of data. 18 Weeks

7 Significant improvements have been seen in Audiology and this indicator is close to target and expected to achieve in December. 18 Weeks

8 There are still breaches for West Sussex Health Paediatric Audiology Services at both Crawley and Haywards Health at the end of November. This is due to a combination of setting up new clinics and appointing patients in them at this time of year has been a challenge. There are 6 outstanding this is due to a combination of patient choice and multiple or late cancellations, those have now been referred back to GPs. It has been confirmed all those breaches at both Crawley and Haywards have been cleared in January. 18 Weeks

9 Increasing screening numbers in November are partly a result of increasing participation by Further education colleges, also by increasing uptake within GP surgeries as a result of the 17-18 year old HPV vaccination catch-up process. Sexual Health
