2 Trouble in Boston A.Bostonians were angry at having soldiers in their town because the soldiers were often rude and some took jobs and even stole goods. B.The Boston Massacre 1.March 5, 1770. 2.The group began throwing snowball, ice, rocks and dared the soldiers to shoot. 3.Crispus Attucks was an African American dockworker who was the first to die in the Boston Massacre.

3 Trouble in Boston C.The Word Spreads 1.Colonial leaders called the event a massacre to make colonists angry at the British and support the boycott of British goods. 2.The Boston Massacre helped the colonists’ cause because it made more people angry at the British and support the boycotts. 3.The committee of correspondence helped the colonists’ cause by bringing together protesters who opposed British taxes. 4.After the repeal of the Townshend Acts, only the tax on tea remained.

4 A Crisis Over Tea A.The Tea Act of 1773 allowed the British East India Company to not pay any taxes on tea and also sell the tea directly to colonists, avoiding colonial merchants. B.In all colonial cities, except Boston, British ships carrying tea were sent back to Britain. C.The Boston Tea Party 1.December 16,1773. 2.Sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohawk Indians and boarded British ships carrying tea. They broke open 342 chests of tea and dumped it into Boston Harbor.

5 A Crisis Over Tea D.The Intolerable Acts 1.The Coercive Acts were passed to punish the city of Boston for the Boston Tea Party. 2.The Coercive Acts closed Boston Harbor. 3.The Coercive Acts banned town meetings. 4.The colonists called the Coercive Acts the “Intolerable Acts”.
