2 Richmond’s Worst year? The worst year of crime in Richmond was 1994. In 1994, Richmond ended the year with 182 homicides (160 confirmed bodies). The worst month in history was August 1994 with 25 homicides that month.

3 ●VCU enrollment dropped in 1994 because of lack of safety ●Tamika Jones’ (top right story) entire family except for herself and 21 month year old sister, Kenya was shot and killed. Her parents, and three siblings were found dead in her home after a brutal attack by Christopher Goins, the father of Tamika’s unborn child. Homicides

5 Are we safe now? The crime rates have decreased significantly, since 1994. In 2014, there were 43 murders throughout the entire year.

6 Richmond is a city of progress with more work to be done. While the crime index has decreased substantially, it is still well above the National and State averages. Not quite, but we are trying.
