2 Round Is a Mooncake Publisher: Roseanna Thong Genre: Fiction Summary: A little girl's neighborhood becomes a discovery ground of things round, square and rectangular. Many of the objects are Asian in origin, other universal: round rice bowls and a found pebble, square dim sum and pizza boxes, rectangular Chinese lace and very special pencil case. Unit Themes: Shapes, and Asian origin Activity: Asian Craft with shapes What makes this book multicultural? This book is considered to be multicultural because it has Asian origin in it as well as some Chinese culture in it. The shapes that are presented in this book are Asian origin and help you to know more about Asian and Chinese culture. It helps to teach more about the Asian and Chinese culture.

3 Grandfather Counts Publisher: Andrea Cheng Genre: Fiction Summary: Helen, a biracial Chinese Caucasian child, has to give up her room when Gong Gong, her grandfather, comes from China to live with her family in America. Gong Gong seems disappointed that his grandchildren don’t speak Chinese, his only language, and Helen, her brother, and sister, who speak only English, are disappointed they cannot communicate with their grandfather. But one day Gong Gong joins Helen as she watches the trains go by behind their house. Soon he and Helen begin counting the train cars together, and they teach each other to count in their own languages. The ice is broken and they begin to bond, which fosters Helen’s interest in learning more about her Chinese heritage. Unit Themes: Counting, and Chinese culture Activity: Chinese themed craft on counting What makes this book multicultural? This book is multicultural because it is dealing with two races, Chinese and Caucasian. It helps teach a little about the Chinese culture.
