2 While studying at Vanderbilt University, Caroline and Allen Tate introduced her to novelist Peter Taylor, whom she would marry in 1943.. Her poetry has been described as elegiac, lyric and feminine. Her work received little recognition until 1998, but thereafter received several major poetry prizes. The poet was known as a quiet, genteel and reclusive person,” writes The Daily Progress, “who often worked in her garden and yard, occasionally invited friends for tea and sent notes of encouragement to other writers and friends

6 Poets purpose is to inform and to explain her life what she had to go through Theme : people may hurt you but in the end they are the one who is weak Things I “know’’ about the speaker is she has been struggling and is being hurt by someone close to her The literal meaning is a fork being scratched by a knife every day but as the days go by the knife gets dull wile the fork is just a fork she doesn’t get dull unlike him The figurative meaning is a woman getting hurt by someone who lives with her its really hard for he. For years getting hurt by him, but in the end he was worn out wile she wasn’t.
